Summer between Grade 11 and Grade 12:

Revise Colleges: Check your list. If your interest or some requirements have changed, update the list. It is best recommended that you apply no more than 5 colleges. Start working on the essays. Many get professional help as the universities place a lot of weight on the essay. Click here for professional help. However, the essay is your chance to communicate with the college, do not allow anyone to write or fundamentally change your essay.

Summer Job or Internship:

Getting a summer job or internship can be a great help for finding your ideal career field. Colleges like it when students take the initiative and start exploring the marketplace. Having a job teaches skills such as teamwork and leadership, which is something that Colleges always want to see. You also get some money in your pocket, which is always nice!

Grade 12:

Students:

Make sure the college list is finalized. Depending on the requirements of the college, talk to your counselor/teacher early for the recommendation letter and to the school office for transcripts. Remember that the counselors have to do this for every student at school. So don't wait until the last minute or they might not be able to send them in on time. Schools have a deadline for submitting requests.
Submit all the required materials ahead of time as there can be postal delays. Don't forget scholarships and financial aids. Check with the school when the letters and transcripts are mailed and check with the colleges to see if the materials have been received within a week. In some instances the school forget to mail materials or it may get lost in the postal system, in most cases if the schools may accept transcripts and letters within a week of the deadline as long as the application and the fees are submitted on time.

Parents:

Help your child do a resume with his or her accomplishments. Parents should write a document describing their child, which will serve as the basis for the recommendation letter the counselor would write.
