# Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers

Find the number that is equivalent to the improper fraction
What is this improper fraction equivalent to?
Note:
A mixed number consists of a whole number and a proper fraction. For example: 1$$\frac{1}{2}$$
In a fraction, if the numerator is less than the denominator, it is a proper fraction. Otherwise, it is an improper fraction. For example: $$\frac{1}{2}$$ is a proper fraction and $$\frac{4}{3}$$ is an improper fraction.
Instructions:
1. Divide the numerator by the denominator.
2. The quotient (answer) is the whole number part of the mixed number and the remainder is the numerator of the proper fraction. The denominator of the proper fraction is the same as the improper fraction.
Example: Convert $$\frac{4}{3}$$ to a mixed number
$${3}{\overline{\smash{)}4}}$$ = 1 with remainder of 1. Therefore, the mixed number is 1$$\frac{1}{3}$$
